Prophet Jeremiah

Prophet Jeremiah

“For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and  hewn themselves cisterns- broken cisterns that can hold no water”.

Prophet Jeremiah was one of Israel’s greatest prophets. In the book of Jeremiah are buried very valuable spiritual messages for those who are in search of heaven. From these messages we are going to pick up those that are important in our present world and time. The rest we will leave behind for the time being as they are mostly for the Israelites, God’s chosen people.

Prophet Jeremiah was one of the priests of Anthoth in the land of Benjamin. His father was Hilkia. He served the Living God during the reign of Jehoiakim and Zedekiah, kings of Judah. As he was still very young at the time God called him to be His prophet, he made many excuses. Even then, God persuaded him to go forth.

As the verse quoted above, Jeremiah-2:13, is significantly important, we will first dwell on it in depth. Firstly, they had forsaken Him, the fountain of living waters, and not satisfied with this, they had hewn themselves cisterns- broken cisterns that can hold no water. One of the gravest evil committed by the descendants of Jacob was forsaking Jehovah, He who had delivered them from bondage in Egypt. They had forsaken the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, their ancestors. God’s heart was deeply pained because they had forsaken Him, He who had delivered them from the cruel hands of Pharaoh, and who had looked after them lovingly in the deserts. It was because of this that God called out His prophet. Not only that, but they had hewn cisterns- broken cisterns that could hold no water. This broken cistern was Baal. There is no fountain of living water in Baal, and there is no life in the lives of those that worship him. In spite of this, the Israelites worshipped Baal, forsaking the living God.

Since the fall of man at Eden, God could not place his trust on anyone on this earth. He therefore called Abraham, and through him created a new seed, a new race, Israel, which He cared for lovingly. If we turn to the book of other prophets, God had clearly said, “You are the only family I have in the entire world”. Even so, His chosen people did not love Him, and it seems that they turn to other things to anger Him instead. God who had chosen them thus lamented, “I have planted the choicest vine (Abraham), but it brought forth wild grapes”. How despairing it must be for Him who had chosen them.

This is what I would like to tell you: we the present Christians have also forsaken the living God, He who had chosen us. Our priests have all knelt down before Baal (love of wealth). We Christians, along with our priests, have all hewn cisterns- broken cisterns that can hold no fountain of living water. Had He not prepared the chosen ones who would never kneel before Baal, many Christians would have converted to other religion. Christians had been led by a true and strong faith, but present day Christians have opinions only. They just give out opinions. In God’s everlasting designs, opinion of man has no place. Yours or my opinions will not change His designs. In these last days God has spoken to us by His son, and He will never change it. He has finalized everything concerning mankind in Christ. Opinion of man, opinion of neither the angels nor the changes we see every day in this world will make any difference. God has finalized His everlasting designs in His beloved Son.
