“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near”(Revelation 1:1-3).
The Lord, Jesus Christ made definite promise to his disciples that he would return to this world to receive his people to himself. He said, “Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you, for I am going there to prepare a place for you. And, if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come and receive you to myself, so that you also may be where I am” (John 14: 1-3).
This saying may confuse the rationalists, but it has been explained by the apostle Paul, “For this we declare to you by the Lord’s own word, that we, the living, who remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. Then the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we, the living believers, who remain, will simultaneously be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so will be with the Lord forever. Therefore, comfort and encourage one another with these words” (II Thess.4:15 – 18).
We may find in many Scriptures that ‘the return of the Lord Jesus’ is imminent. The Christians from all over the world put an emphasis on the coming of Lord Jesus. It has been preached and propagated throughout the world, especially among the Christians, since 30 A.D. But it seems that no one of the past and present generation really understands what was said by Lord Jesus. We can see that many believers or those who claimed themselves as believers misinterpreted the book of prophecy concerning the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
While Lord Jesus was with his disciples in this world, he often foretold them that he would be put to death and would rise on the third day. But they did not understand what he said. They heard it with their ears not with their heart. It was hidden from them until they were filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. But, concerning the period of his coming, Lord Jesus fears that we might make an excuse of not knowing his sayings. He warned every one of us through his disciples to be on guard and not to be directed in the wrong way. He foretold all the signs and events that must be happened to the world. He sometimes, used parables to make them understand his words.
